CSOL Art Serenade Program

We’re excited to bring you the very first CSOL Art Serenade: happening Saturday, August 16th, 2025 from 11-5 pm at the Park Circle Community Building and Grounds. This unique event brings together an incredible lineup of artists, musicians, and judges for a full day of creativity, community, and connection. Take a look at the talented individuals involved and get a sense of what makes this celebration truly special.

Live Art Competitions

A signature element of the CSOL Art Serenade is our live painting competitions, where art, music, and energy harmonize. Throughout the day, a lineup of bold, talented artists will create original works on the spot, inspired by the sounds and atmosphere around them.

Their creations will be judged by an incredible panel of artistic mentors: Sheryl Stalnaker, Christine Patterson, and Nadine Vogel. Winners will receive awards from our generous sponsors in recognition of their live performance and creativity.

What makes this so special is how connected it all feels. You’re not just watching, you’re part of it. The music, the vibe, even your presence will influence the final piece. It’s a rare, intimate glimpse into the creative process as it unfolds in real time.

There will be two competitions: one from 12:00–1:00 PM and another from 2:00–3:00 PM.

Watch Music Inspire Art

Watch CSOL scholarship winner Austin Fitzhenry, and Charleston artist Elizabeth Marin show a glimpse of this competition.

Filmed at the beautiful Dock Street Theatre, we experimented with live cello inspiring an abstract painting.

Judges

Christine Patterson

Christine Patterson is a Charleston-based artist known for her evocative fusion of fine art photography, painting, and mixed media. With over 30 years of experience, her work blends traditional film—often infrared—with layered digital and tactile processes, resulting in soulful, storytelling pieces. Originally from Tennessee, Christine gained early recognition as a Tennessee Bicentennial photographer and has been featured in galleries, museums, and publications nationwide. Her practice spans solo exhibitions, published books, and corporate and museum collections including the Tennessee State Museum and Knoxville Museum of Art. Now working out of her studio at Redux Contemporary Art Center, she continues to teach, exhibit, and explore themes of light, memory, and transformation—guiding others to rediscover their creative essence along the way.

Nadine Vogel

Corporate Executive turned global business owner turned passionate artist, Nadine Vogel holds a B.S., Industrial Psychology, College of Charleston and an MBA, Golden Gate University.

As a self-taught, abstract artist residing in Folly Beach, S.C. and Highland Beach, FL, Nadine primarily paints using acrylics but also enjoys a variety of mixed mediums, always exploring new styles and colors. Living on the beach, Nadine’s creative process is inspired by the sights, sounds and rhythms of the ocean as well as her life experiences as an author, public speaker, professor, TV Host, Interior Designer, global Disability Consultant, mentor, wife and mother to two beautiful women, one of whom is disabled. She believes that it’s those experiences, including the painful ones, that serve as a source of strength and creativity.

Just like the sea’s ever-changing tides, Nadine’s art is an exploration of life, the importance of perspective and the belief in what’s possible.

Sheryl Stalnaker

Painter Sheryl Stalnaker finds joy in depicting wildlife and aquatic habitats and the beauty of these precious vistas which are increasingly threatened by human related activity. Whether it’s a marsh and tidal river in the low country, an Atlantic coastline, or the rapids of a freshwater river, Sheryl captures the light, movement, feeling and energy of every scene with her paint.

Stalnaker has shown her award-winning works in galleries along the East Coast, along with juried shows such as Piccolo Spoleto in Charleston, the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition landscape show, Artfields, and the Telfair Museum of Art Fair in Savannah.

She is a graduate of the University of Washington. Her work is in corporate collections including Duke University Hospital, Vibra Hospital Charleston, First Capital Bank, Tidelands Bank, and in private collections across the U.S., England and as far away as Japan.

Live Musical Performances

We’ll have live performances going all day, from solos and duets to quartets and full choirs. Each musician is bringing their own style and playing what they love, creating a relaxed, come-as-you-are atmosphere.

You can expect to hang with friends, grab a drink or a bite to eat, and enjoy incredible live music in the comfort of the A/C. Experience talented performers sharing their passion in a setting that feels welcoming, inspiring, and fun in an unconventional and approachable environment.

Drop in for a song or stay for the whole day.
