The CSOL Art Serenade features two live art competitions that are among the most exciting parts of the day. Artists create work in real time, inspired by the live music being performed right beside them, while the audience watches the creative process unfold. Judging these competitions is a meaningful role, and we are looking for prominent local art figures to serve as judges.

What the Competition Looks Like

Competing artists work on their pieces during designated time windows at the event. The live music sets the mood and serves as direct inspiration. Once time is up, judges evaluate the finished works based on creativity, technical skill, connection to the music, and overall impact. Every participant received an award in Year One, and finished competition pieces are available for purchase at a low flat fee to promote accessibility.

What We Look for in Judges

We are seeking individuals with a strong background in the visual arts, whether as practicing artists, gallery directors, educators, curators, or arts administrators. A connection to the Charleston arts community is valued, though not required. The ideal judge brings expertise, fairness, and enthusiasm for supporting emerging and established artists alike.

Your Role on Event Day

Judges attend the competition sessions on May 30, evaluate the works, and help present awards. It is a hands-on role that puts you at the center of one of the event's most energizing moments. You will also have full access to enjoy the rest of the Art Serenade, including the art auction, Instrument Discovery Zone, vendor market, and more.
